Description
Weirwood reservoir is a 280 acre expanse of water. It was created in 1954 to supply water to the region and in 1966 was listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest, in recognition of the importance to the wildlife and conservation. It is now owned by Southern Water.
Weir Wood Sport & Leisure has recently taken over managing the water sport activities, which include sailing and wind surfing. These activities have very little, if any, impact on the fishing.
There is a cafe and toilets in their building.
The shallow western end of the reservoir is a nature reserve where fishing is prohibited.
We are allowed to fish up to half a mile from the dam wall on the South and North banks. See the map in the rules.
The Lodge grass bank on the south side is the most accessible and feeder fishing is probably the best method when fishing from here for bream and silver fish, using maggots and ground bait in the feeder with maggots or worms as the hook bait. Fishing for perch with a small lure is great sport. Carp are occasionally caught from the South bank but the North bank is proven to be more successful. Fishing for pike and zander is more successful from a boat, which can be hired on a daily basis. Pike and lure fishing is permitted all year round but can be suspended during warm water temperature conditions.

Access and Parking:
When attending Weir Wood Reservoir to fish you must sign in at the Fisheries Managers lodge and present your membership book.
As stated in the rules you may take one guest (for a fee of £10), who’s name must also be provided.
On checking in you will be given the gate code which will enable you to take your car in to drop off your gear. Your car must then be parked in the main car park. Taking your car in may not be possible on the weekend as there may be a lot of boating activity. The manager/bailiff will advise you of this when checking in.
Fishery Rules:
Please read the rules in the link below. These rules are specific to this fishery but the HPS Club code of conduct also applies when fishing here.
